Yet another news on acquisition in the BI/DW world. This time it is Greenplum – leading DW appliance vendor, who is to be bought over by EMC. A clear and distinct sign that this acquisition is sure to be a precursor for bigger things to happen in the market place soon. EMC finds lots of synergies in Greenplum and it would certainly leverage and consolidate is primary position in the storage market place where it sells tons and tons of storage space for data warehousing deployments.
With HP’s Neoview struggling to find its place whereas other players like Neteeza and Aster Data doing well, there seems to be similar consolidations happening with major vendors looking out for suitable candidates for acquisition. Startups like Kickfire could be the future targets.
May be who knows this could be a first step towards Data Warehousing in the cloud – in real terms of course.
